Robot Pet News: Sirius Kickstarter Is Now Live

Hengbot’s Sirius, a small quadruped robot dog with very unique limbs, is now available to back on Kickstarter. Sirius is the only robot dog with a quadruped body that I have seen with legs and an overall body form that look like an actual creature instead of just another version of Boston Robotic’s Spot.

What Does Sirius Do?

To be totally transparent, it is hard for me to say. Sirius can certainly be programmed and has a large array of sensors (including pet sensors and various object detection sensors) that should enable it to be a powerful robot. It is overall an impressive robot in a small package.

Hengbot’s Kickstarter claims the dog comes with pre-set personalities that you can choose from, and that you can also name the dog. However, I can’t really determine if Sirius is meant to primarily be controlled by a person or if it is capable of navigating an environment by itself.

In other words, from their marketing materials and Kickstarter, I can’t say for sure if this little robot dog has any autonomy. That does appear to be a goal, but as of right now there is no solid proof backing that information.

Sirius & Quadruped Design Language

I can, however, say that Sirius is gorgeous. All other recent quadruped robot dogs that have been released quite simply look like someone slapped a dog head on to Spot.

Sirius is his own beast. He is sleek and beautiful and doesn’t try to be overly cutesy. This is the first quadruped-style robot dog that really genuinely stands out by just design.

Sirius’s Release & Future

Backing Kickstarter campaigns is always a little scary – you never know what will happen or if delays will occur. Luckily, Hengbot seems to be pretty serious about their little robot dog. The shipping date is pretty soon – October 2025 – so it is clear they have already done a lot of the work on their project.

It is hard to say for certain if Sirius will live up to what it promises. Personally, I have faith in this one and I am excited to see such a gorgeous robot enter the market.

You can back Sirius on Kickstarter and get your own sleek little robot dog starting at $659 here.
