Have some stubborn scratches on your Tamagotchi or other virtual pet device? You can fix that (as long as they aren’t too deep). Watch the video below for a guide!
This method works for all Tamagotchi devices, including the new Tamagotchi Paradise.
Polishing Your Tamagotchi Step by Step:
- Grab your supplies – you need q-tips, Polywatch or PlastX, and a microfiber cloth.
- Put a very small amount of plastic polish on your q-tip. Don’t use a lot, a little goes a long way on such a small device!
- Remove any dust from your screen. Rubbing dust on a Tamagotchi screen can cause more scratches. Use a microfiber cloth here because anything else will scratch your screen more.
- Once the dust is gone, rub your q-tip with polish on it on the screen. Make sure to cover the entire screen. Be firm but gentle. If you are too gentle, it won’t work and you will have to do it multiple times to get results. However, that’s better than damaging anything by being too rough!
- Once you are satisfied, swap to the dry side of your q-tip and attempt to remove any remaining polish from your Tamagotchi screen with it. Get as much off as possible with the q-tip. You’ll also be able to see results at this point. If small scratches are still there, you will have to polish the Tamagotchi again.
- Use a microfiber cloth to remove any polish that remains. Don’t use any other material, you’ll scratch your screen again! Make sure all the polish is removed or your screen will look cloudy.
Things to note:
- I will emphasize it again – only use microfiber on the final step. Anything else will scratch your screen again.
- Don’t polish your Tamagotchi too often, as polishing works by removing a thin layer of material from the screen. It is better to prevent scratches than fix them.
- Don’t press too hard on the screen. Most virtual pet devices have fairly sensitive screen plastics that are prone to damage.
- You can polish clear plastic faceplates as well, but it will remove any paint that is on them.
Tamagotchi Cleaning & Care Tips:
Like I said, prevention is much better than having to fix scratches! Let’s go over some ways to keep your Tamagotchi nice (and how to not accidentally damage it).
Do’s:
- Use a screen protector if you can, right when you purchase the device. This will entirely prevent any scratches.
- Cases with clear front covers also work great! Use both for maximum protection if you really value your device being scratch-free.
- If you don’t want a case, at least keep your Tamagotchi in it’s own pouch if you carry it inside a purse or bag. That will cut down on damage immensely.
Don’ts:
- Never use any percentage isopropyl alcohol to clean the screen. Tamagotchi and Digimon virtual pets have screens made of very soft plastic that will get cloudy if you use alcohol on them.
- Avoid using your shirt or anything other than microfiber to wipe dust off your device. It’ll just scratch it, even if you are super careful. Blowing dust off with air is best!
- If you care about your device getting scratches, don’t use it as a keychain without case coverage and a screen protector.
Tamagotchi Screen Protectors:

Finding screen protectors can be a little annoying, so I have gathered a few here that should work. Note that I can’t find any for the original Tamagotchi, Tamagotchi Nano or Pix that have a high enough rating for me to recommend currently. Hopefully that will change soon!
Tamagotchi Cases (full coverage):

Cases that only cover the shell are cute and all, but sometimes having a device fully enclosed is safer. Some even come with a screen protector and silicone shell cover!
Final Thoughts
Keeping a Tamagotchi or Digimon device pristine can be tough with how easily they get damaged. It is totally doable though with the right things, and if the damage is already done you can just polish it off! Hopefully this guide helps you keep your device looking its best.
